TEDxDePereMiddleSchool
The popular TED platform, featuring talks by some of the world’s foremost thinkers, allows organizations to design their own TED-like events under the TEDx label. This TEDx event exclusively features De Pere Middle School students who prepare an engaging talk on an idea they want to spread.
- Eligibility Requirements: Open to all 7th and 8th grade students. There is an application process and students are chosen based on advisor criteria.
- Time Commitment: Students should expect to spend several FLEX sessions a week working on their talks, and may need to use SRT or recess time for rehearsals. They should also anticipate spending some time at home writing their talk. However, the event and meetings all happen during the school day, so no specific out of school time is required.
- Procedures for joining: In December/January, students will begin to receive information on what TEDx is and how to prepare to write a talk. The application process will occur in February and students will be chosen from those applications.
- Activity Time Period: Application prep begins in January, applications are approved in late February, and the event takes place in late May.
- Membership Limit: The amount of students will always be based on the quality of the applications.

The Middle School theater puts on a play for the school and community each fall. It aims to provide students with a quality drama experience while also involving students in the set design and technical aspects of running a show.
- Eligibility Requirements: Auditions required for students to get a role on stage and are open to all 7th and 8th grade students. Stage crew will need to apply for various roles, such as painting sets, applying makeup, or lighting and sound.
- Time Commitment: Rehearsals are held four days a week from September until the performance weekend in early December. Students will be given a schedule of when certain scenes will be rehearsed, so depending on the role, the time commitment may be fewer days early in the process. Stage crew departments will jump in at different intervals, and require different schedules. The time commitment will be less for stage crew depending on the department. Some Saturdays will be required.
- Procedures for joining: For Actors - they will audition in September (exact times will be posted and announced). For stage crew, any interested students must submit an application before the deadline. That will be emailed and announced.
- Activity Time Period: September through Early December
- Membership Limit: Any student who auditions will be given a role. Stage crew is limited to approximately 30 students, depending on department needs for each production.
