USDD Board Approves Annual Budget, Tax Rate Decrease

Property owners in the Unified School District of De Pere will see their tax rate for school district purposes go down by 10.63 percent to $5.83 per $1000 of property valuation following School Board approval of the District’s final 2021-2022 budget on Monday, Oct. 25.
The total approved tax levy is $16,094,056, an overall decrease of $638,460 or 3.82 percent, compared to last year. In addition to local funding, the district receives close to $31 million from the State of Wisconsin, $96,600 from the federal government, $4.86 million in interdistrict payments and $132,300 from other sources.
Upon certifying the levy, the district’s total 2021-2022 budget is $60 million. Salaries and benefits comprise roughly 69 percent of budget expenditures.

Business Manager Dawn Foeller said the tax rate decrease is mainly due to additional state funding the District will receive, directly reducing the District’s tax levy coupled with property value growth of 7.63% and an increase in full time student enrollment of approximately 31 students based on the state of Wisconsin’s official September 2021 count.
