On Thursday, December 13, the high school counselors will be at the middle school providing information for course registration for freshmen year. We will be presenting scheduling information, course offerings and high school graduation requirements. Students will be given a course sign-up sheet requiring a parent signature. Please go over this sheet carefully with your child as selecting high school courses is important and very few schedule changes are made once schedules are complete. The counselors will be back at the middle school on Thursday, January 17, to have the students register for their freshman courses. On Thursday, January 3rd, the De Pere High School Counseling staff will be offering an orientation program for parents of eighth grade students interested in attending De Pere High School. The program will begin at 6:45 pm in the high school auditorium. The purpose of the program is to familiarize parents with DPHS, course offerings and the registration process. Representatives from each department will be available to answer questions regarding specific courses. We encourage you to attend this program so that you can better assist your child in selecting high school courses. If you have questions, please contact 983-2440.

7th Grade Career Planning Conferences

As part of the state initiative to make sure that all students have academic and career planning, I will be meeting with all 7th graders in small groups during one of their core classes. The purpose of the Career Planning Conference is to make sure that students understand the connection between school and their future career. The students are grouped by similar career interests based off of a survey I had them take. During the Career Planning Conference, we first will discuss how the transition to middle school is going. The second part of the conference focuses on their career goals. We will be discussing what careers they are interested in and what experiences they have had that make them think this career would be a good fit. We also will be setting a goal of something new they can try in order to keep learning more about themselves. These career and experience goals will be added to their Career Cruising portfolio. Seventh graders will also add to their Career Cruising portfolio during their “Exploring Life’s Work” class. All students have access to their Career Cruising Portfolio through the school webpage. This can be accessed anytime. I encourage you to look at what your students have documented in there. If you have any questions about your student’s planning conference, feel free to contact Krista Bosma (7th grade school counselor) at or at 983-9174 Ext. 2115.
